The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership ® The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, the model on which The Leadership Challenge is based, resulted initially from an intensive research project to determine the leadership competencies that are essential to getting extraordinary things done in organizations. The CLI Leadership Challenge Program includes the Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI) was created as part of the author’s extensive and ongoing research into the everyday actions and behaviors of exemplary leaders.  The LPI is a tool that helps leaders assess the extent to which they actually use those practices so that they can make plans for improvement.
